What is oberliga westfalen?

Oberliga Westfalen is a regional football league in Germany that is part of the fifth tier of the German football league system. It is organized by the Westphalian Football and Athletics Association (Westfälischer Fußball- und Leichtathletikverband or WFLV). The league covers the region of Westphalia and includes teams from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The top teams from the Oberliga Westfalen qualify for the annual promotion playoffs to the Regionalliga West, the fourth tier of German football. The league was founded in 1978 as a successor to the Verbandsliga Westfalen. The league has undergone several name changes over the years, such as Verbandsliga Westfalen-Nord, Verbandsliga Westfalen-Mitte, and Verbandsliga Westfalen-Südwest, before being renamed as Oberliga Westfalen in 2008.
